It’s going to sound like a bit of a broken record throughout this prospect profile but if you’re looking for a goal scorer in the 2018 NHL Draft, Oliver Wahlstrom should be at the top of your list.

Wahlstrom found the back of the net 77 times last season in just 95 games split between the USHL, NTDP and U-18 tournament and while he’s fully aware of his primary talent, he feels that he does have some more layers to his game.

“My skill and the way I shoot the puck to generate scoring chances are probably my best assets,” Wahlstrom told “Maybe the way I get under a guy’s skin and use my body to hit people are two other qualities.”

Wahlstrom, who is a dual citizen of the United States and Sweden, credits his father for a lot of his hereditary skills. Joakim Wahlstrom played a season at the University of Maine along with two seasons in Sweden and it appears that the apple hasn’t fallen too far from the tree when it comes to playing style.

“Dad played with a lot of speed, up and down the ice,” Wahlstrom said. “My creativity and ability to slow the pace down and make everyone around me read off each other are important. It’s important to get into those dirty areas to create scoring chances.”
