Penguins Recall Casey DeSmith

DeSmith, 26, was recently selected to play in the AHL All-Star Classic. This year, he has gone 12-5-2 with a 2.53 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage in 19 games with WBS. He has one shutout.

Earlier this year, DeSmith made his NHL debut with Pittsburgh on October 29 in Winnipeg. He has made two NHL appearances in relief, with his most recent coming on December 9 against Toronto.

A 6-foot-1, 181-pound native of Rochester, New Hampshire, DeSmith is 35-12-5 with a 2.19 goals-against average and .922 save percentage with three shutouts in 54 career games with WBS over three seasons. Last year, he was selected to the AHL All-Rookie Team. DeSmith and Tristan Jarry also shared the Harry “Hap” Holmes Award as the duo that combined to record the lowest goals-against average in the league.

Pittsburgh returns from its five-day bye week this weekend, when it hosts the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers in back-to-back home contests at PPG Paints Arena. The Pens play the Red Wings on Saturday at 1:00 PM, a game that will be broadcast on ATT SportsNet. Sunday evening, the Pens and New York Rangers play in a nationally broadcasted game at 7:30 PM on NBC Sports Network. The starting time for that game was moved to avoid a conflict with the Pittsburgh Steelers 1:00 PM playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
