Forsberg streak for Predators ends with undisclosed injury

Forsberg missed his first game since April 13, 2014 when the Predators defeated the Minnesota Wild 3-0 on Saturday. It was a streak of 325 games, including the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

He could be out from 2-6 weeks, Sportsnet reported Saturday.

“We don’t want to lose a guy like [Forsberg] because he’s so important to our team, but it does present an opportunity,” Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said. “I guess it’s a cliché more than anything, but it’s the truth of the matter too.”

Forsberg sustained an undisclosed injury in a 4-2 loss to the Wild on Friday. The 23-year-old, who leads the Predators in goals (15), assists (19) and points (34), was one of nine players to play in all of his team’s regular-season games since the start of the 2014-15 NHL season, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Forsberg has led or tied for the Predators lead in goals each of the past three seasons and has scored at least 31 goals each of the past two seasons.

Forward Frederick Gaudreau was recalled from Milwaukee of the American Hockey League and played 6:21 Saturday. He has three assists in 18 games with the Predators this season.
