Foligno won a silver medal playing for Canada at the 2011 World Junior Championship. He was originally selected by Buffalo in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6-foot-3, 208-pound defenseman from Montreal, Quebec, registered 13 points (4-9=13) and 25 PIM in 71 games for Minnesota in 2016-17. He was originally selected by Minnesota in the second round (55th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
