Fantasy Hockey: Scouting The NHL DFS Playoffs – Sun, April 16

It is Stanley Cup Sunday! First, let me start off by wishing everyone a Happy Easter for those that celebrate. I hope you followed my write up yesterday and cashed out. My late swap sleeper play of Kapanen paid off with a huge goal at under 0.5% owned. Other plays of Ovechkin and Van Riemsdyk also scored us a ton of points and Ovie got us a Power Play Goal as I predicted. I had a lot of tweets from many happy members and hope to continue it tonight.

This write-up is for the main slate that starts at 6 pm. Time to flip the script now as the Away teams are now finally on home ice. Do not look too deep into it though for a team like Columbus. They are down two games to the Penguins and have a ton more pressure to perform than say a team like the New York Rangers as they are tied at one game a piece with Les Canadiens de Montréal. Like yesterday, try to stick to a single-entry or three-entry max games. Put maybe one or two lineups in an MME GPP. Sharks will be trolling the vast ocean of GPPs so play wisely. It’s your money, make it work for you. Time to put conventional thinking aside and put on our Critical Thinking Caps on and win some big money!

Mr. Pucks Profound Three

Sidney Crosby (Pit) -Center- ($8900 FD / $8400 DK)

Firstly, I have to ask… FanDuel, how is he not the highest priced player on the slate? Secondly, I made a mistake and faded Sid in his last game, and it bit me in the ass. Not this time. Crosby knows if he and his Pens take this game, they have an over 95% chance of winning the series. The Jackets will attempt to shut him down, and he will overcome. He will score two goals, with one being the game winner. He should also be good for an assist and five shots on goal. Roll him and Guentzel ($5700 FD / $5800 DK) in your cash games, as I will be as well.

Max Pacioretty (Mon) -Wing- ($7500 FD / $7000 DK)

After fully exceeding expectations this season and scoring 35 goals, Patches has been a mainstay on most of my DFS lineups. He is not done proving me right this year and will take over in this game. I expect two goals from him, with one on the power play and an assist. Fire him up with Radulov ($5900 FD / $5300 DK) in your cash games and smile ear to ear.

Joe Pavelski (SJ) -Wing- ($7200 FD / $6700 DK)

It is tough for me to pick who will shine in the Sharks/Oilers series. Most will target Edmonton and their top line. I can’t pull that trigger, not with the Sharks on home ice. I feel the Oilers will overlook him as he only has one assist in his last three meetings with the Oilers. He will sneak up on them and make them pay. He will be the star in this game and score two goals with two assists and six shots on net. I will have him in both cash and GPP and pair him with Melker Karlsson ($3400 FD / $3000 DK) in both formats. Maybe add in Paul Martin ($3900 FD / $3100 DK) for a W/W/D stack.

Mr. Pucks Sleeper Play

Oliver Bjorkstrand (CBJ) -Wing- ($3400 FD / 3100 DK)

I have always been a big fan of Bjorkstrand and his style of gameplay. Though he only had 13 points in 24 regular season games, a lot of it was due to playing on the third or fourth line and limiting his time on ice. I feel he gives the home fans a boost with his own and first ever NHL playoff goal. Add that with three shots on net, and he will hit well over 5x value. You can use him along with his center Sam Gagner ($3900 FD / $4100 DK) for a low cost, high upside GPP value play.

Teams To Target

Pittsburgh Penguins – The top line of Guentzel-Crosby-Sheary will be popular tonight, as well as a Malkin-Kessel pairing. I like Cole and Daley on defense tonight, even like Hainsey as a cheap punt.

Montreal Canadiens – Radulov-Danault-Pacioretty should provide a ton of goal scoring at a medium ownership level. Also like a sneaky stack of Gallagher-Galchenyuk. Really like Klefbom tonight on defense as well as Sekera. Nesterov as a punt on defense.

San Jose Sharks  All in on Pavelski-Karlsson tonight in both cash and GPP games. Also look at Donskoi-Marleau-Ward for a full stack with very low ownership. I am as big a Donskoi fan as a Bjorkstrand fan. Burns is a beast on defense but expensive. Use Vlasic or Martin as a pivot.

Also Consider – NYR 2, CBJ 12

Goalies

**As always check before puck drop to see if your goalie is starting

  • Jones – Cash/GPP
  • Price – GPP
  • Fleury – GPP
  • Talbot – GPP only if you don’t trust SJ. I will use in one or two lineups to hedge.
