Need to Know: Bruins at Flyers

What to Watch For

After scoring just eight goals over a span of five games – four of which were losses – the Bruins erupted for four goals in a 4-1 win over Tampa Bay Sunday afternoon at TD Garden. Boston received goals from Dominic Moore, David Backes, Jimmy Hayes, and David Pastrnak – at least one each from three of four lines.

The Bruins hope the scoring – and scoring depth – continues on Tuesday in Philadelphia.

“I think just we went back to a lot of things that we had done so well before,” Bruins coach Claude Julien said of what worked against the Lightning. “We were throwing more pucks at the net. We were there around the net. We were not looking to pass around and play the perimeter O-zone game, but we really got to the inside, and we made things happen there.

“So, something we were doing earlier in the year, and it kind of slipped away from us.”

Opposing View

Philadelphia broke a two-game skid with a 5-3 win over Calgary on Sunday. Goaltender Anthony Stolarz, 22, made 29 saves on 32 shots in his NHL debut to pace the Flyers. Stolarz was recalled after an injury to Michal Neuvirth.

Philadelphia is third in the NHL in scoring (3.13 goals per game), but last in the league in defense (3.30 goals allowed per game). The Flyers have the second-ranked power play (25.0%).

Wayne Simmonds is eighth in the league in both goals (11) and scoring (21). Claude Giroux leads the NHL in power-play points (11) and is fifth in assists (15).

Wait, There’s More

  • Zdeno Chara missed his third straight game on Sunday and is expected to sit out again on Tuesday night in Philadelphia. According to Julien, Chara skated on his own Sunday morning at TD Garden and remains day-to-day.
  • John-Michael Liles left Sunday afternoon’s game with Tampa Bay after crashing awkwardly into the boards early in the first period and did not return. Julien believed Liles might have also taken a knee to the head. There has not been an update on his condition.
  • Pastrnak now has a team-leading 13 goals. The total also ranks second in the NHL behind only Sidney Crosby (15).
