In my opinion, we can put the Boychuk trade rumors to rest now. The Bruins are fine, thank you, and will not trade away an experienced playoff defenceman like Boychuk – not in a year where they see themselves making a run for Lord Stanley’s Cup. This would be self-defeating. When the dust settles, they’ll be about $400,000 under the cap. I can see them moving Bartkowski and/or Chris Kelly or Gregory Campbell. This type of trade would give them some breathing room. They may have to eat part of Kelly’s salary, but even taking half of it ($1.5 million) off the books would be a good move. In fact, they would then have room to sign Simon Gagne, should he make the team. Whatever the case, I do think Chiarelli will get a minor deal done, in the next week or so at the latest.
