Derrick Pouliot Undergo Shoulder Surgery to Miss 4-6 Months

Pittsburgh Penguins defense prospect and the Canadian ice hockey defenceman Derrick Pouliot had successful shoulder surgery on Wednesday and expected to miss 4-6 months.

The 20-year-old defenceman had shoulder labral repair surgery. Pouliot, the eighth pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, was named the WHL “Defenseman of the Year” after helping the Portland Winterhawks advance to the WHL championship series.

Pouliot led Western Hockey League defensemen in the playoffs with 32 points (5 goals, 27 assists) and had a career-high 70 points (17 goals, 53 assists) during the regular season.

According to the sources – via Twitter on Wednesday that Penguins rookie defenseman Olli Maatta will have shoulder surgery on Thursday that will sideline him for about 4 months out of games.
