Kessel was suspended for three games

Phil Kessel is one of the American professional ice hockey forward, In the National Hockey League he is playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 2006 NHL Entry Draft he was drafted by the Boston Bruins and was the fifth overall pick. In 2010 Winter Olympics he had recorded a goal, played about 6 games and an assist en route to a silver medal.

Kessel was suspended by the NHL only for Toronto’s final three preseason games for slashing John Scott the Buffalo Sabres player. He also had a disciplinary hearing on telephone for his action during the game.

According to the vice president of the NHL player safety Brendan Shanahan said that Kessel’s clean record that Scott wasn’t injured determined the suspension. He also said that Kessel’s initial motivation was self defense.

David Clarkson was also suspended for about 10 regular season games because he had left the bench to take a part in the fight against the Buffalo Sabres during the game.
