Anaheim Ducks were happy to have Teemu Selanne back in to the team. Teemu Selanne has started his NHL career in 1992-93 season, with Winnipeg Jets and now he will be playing his 21st season in NHL.
Ducks have re-signed Teemu on a one-year, $2 million contract. Bob Murray and the team is very happy to have him back. Offensive squad will be stronger for the Ducks. Prior to this Ducks are in dilemma on his position. Though Ducks have the Palmieri, Etem, and Bonino to give the offensive stroke in first six minutes, however Teemu’s return cleared the churn.
Selanne stated that, “I think it’s good for people to know it will be the last one, I haven’t said that officially before, and it will be easier for me to take advantage of every day and enjoy. I think it’s good for everybody, my family too. They’ve asked questions over the years, and now it’s a very clear situation.”
Ducks GM, Bob Murray is glad on Teemu’s return and said, “It’s great to have Teemu back. He clearly still has passion for the game and can’t wait to get started; we are so pleased that Teemu will end his career where he belongs.”
Teemu was offered to play wing role, which made him to take the decision easily. And he is very happy about the coach’s decision.
Selanne stated that “I never wanted to get any promises because I know the coach can’t really do that.
“Obviously, we have a great group of guys. Getting those guys in, I didn’t want a situation where we pushed them in no matter what happened,” he added, “It’s a competitive situation and everyone has to earn their ice time and power play. I know I can do it. I just needed to be on the same page with the coach. That’s what happened. I’m very happy about that”.
Teemu was the 1st pick of Winnipeg Jets in 1988 NHL Draft and made his NHL debut in 1992-93 season. As a rookie he scored 132 points by posting 76 goals and 56 assists. After spending four seasons with Jets, he played 14 seasons for Ducks (1995-96 to 2000-01 & 2005-2012-13). He spent short time with Sharks (3 seasons) and Avalanche (One Season).
In the last season he appeared in all 48 games and recorded 24 points with 12 goals. In his entire NHL regular season games he scored 1430 points (675g-755a) in 1387 games.
In NHL Playoff games he played 118 games and recorded 82 points by posting 42 goals, 40 assists.
Finland native, Teemu has represented his country five times in the Olympics and expecting the berth in his Sixth Winter Olympics team in Sochi, Russia.
Selanne stated – “That’s also a big bonus for the next season”; “This could be my sixth Olympics, which I’m very proud of. We have a Finnish coach (Erkka Westerlund) who will pick the team, but that’s my goal for sure.”
Teemu is confident on himself and team. According to his statements – Teemu and entire can achieve more than what they have done in the past. Team has the capability to win the Title and he wants to give his best in his last season.
