Steve Begin signed a one-year contract with the Calgary Flames’ AHL affiliate Abbotsford Heat on Wednesday. He had played 36 games during the last season with Flames.
He was selected as No.40 by the Calgary Flames in the second round in 1996 NHL Draft. He played 524 NHL games with various teams including Flames and scored 108 points including 56 goals.
35 year-old, Steve Begin joined with Flames as a non-roster invitee in the training camp and scored 8 points (4 goals, 4 assists) in 36 games last season. He got the reputation with the team for his qualities of sportsmanship and dedication to the game. Also, he was nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
Begin was hoping for the one-way deal with Flames, but couldn’t get it and decided to sign a one-year contract with the Flames league team Abbotsford Heat. The financial terms of the deal were not yet disclosed by the team management.
