San Jose Sharks announced the deal extension of five-years with Joe Pavelski on Tuesday. The contract will officially stats from July 2014. The value of the contract is not yet disclosed by the team management but it may be around $30 million with a $6 million annual salary cap.
Pavelski said, “It’s always exciting when a franchise puts that responsibility on you a little bit”. “It’s important to continue to play at a high level in that regard. It’s a position I wanted to be in, and it’s exciting to have this opportunity.”
San Jose Sharks extending the contracts of key players. Before Pavelski, they have extended the contract of Logan Couture for five years for $30 million.
Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson said, “He is one of our core players, the way he plays”. “To me it was just an important contract to get done on the heels of Logan’s contract also. He fits for now and the future the way he plays the game.”
Joe Pavelski was the pick no.7 in 2003. He scored 31 points including 16 goals and 15 assists in 48 games. The advantage for him is he plays very well in power-play and penalty-kill units. Overall he scored 150 goals and 186 assists in 479 career games with Sharks.
Pavelski said, “I’ve played at a high level at times throughout my career and through stretches,” “It’s about getting to that high level and maintaining it and expecting it on a nightly basis.”
He scored 12 points with 4 goals and 8 points in 11 playoffs games last year and also 50 points including 24 goals and 26 assists in 74 career playoff games.
